E16 - 'how can you determine the age of the volcano Acraeus Mons, how many times has it erupted and how powerful were the eruptions.

Comments:
We chose the topic volcanoes. We chose this because we took a vote and it was between atmosphere and volcanoes. We went over the pros and cons of each and decided volcanoes would be the best topic for us, because we were all interested in the facts about them that were not visible just by looking at the pictures. Also atmosphere would be hard to take a picture of.

We've decided to answer the existence question: how old is the volcano Acraeus Mons. And the Measurement question: what formed the craters on top of the volcanoes on mars.

How do you determine the age of a surface of Mars? Great topic! Why did you pick this volcano?

So how will you go about finding the age of this volcano? Another thing you might want to look at is how many times has it erupted? Is there any way you can tell the different strengths of the eruptions. Just a thought.

thatnks for the tip I'll look into that.

Well, our group is doing pretty well right now. One hasn't done anything and doesn't participate in conversations, but everything else is fine. In the other days discussion we came to the decision to keep our question for now. Most of the background reports just need a little tweeking . Before we can complete the final background repot though we need everyones's information. Hopefully this will help us with our question, 'how can you determine the age of the volcano Acraeus Mons, how many times has it erupted and how powerful were the eruptions.

I really like these! Do a good job on your background report on all three of these topics, and you should get something positive out of one of them. I'd concentrate on the how many times, and how powerful issue, the age should be your last choice.

Fine. Now be flexible here. Odyssey might not pass over your first choice. Have a second (third) in mind. That hopefully is good news on the individual also.

You could have trouble with finding the actual age of the eruption. Be sure you read at least one of the four crater count articles I posted to the Mars Links Page. Also, don't get hung up on one volcano. It could be dark over your first pick when Odyssey is over it. Genralize your selection.
